Shopping & Services The Crossroads of Vermont is a large geographical area. It encompasses approximately 30 towns. At the heart of the region is the state’s second largest city, and the world famous Killington Ski & Summer Resort. Rutland serves as the major shopping mecca for a population of around 150,000 people. Rutland has a new Diamond Run Mall that features Sears, J.C. Penney, K-Mart, Cherry Webb and dozens of smaller independent and chain retailers. There are two other smaller malls, a vibrant downtown shopping area and many other scattered retail shops. In the Killington area there a many specialty sports retailers and upscale shopping outlets. Surrounding communities feature hundreds of country stores, gift shops, antique dealers, arts & craft galleries and other specialty retailers. The pace here is unhurried, and the fun of discovery makes shopping a pleasant diversion. Shopkeepers are friendly and helpful and always pleased to meet a new customer. Vermont is not about Nieman-Marcus, Tiffany’s or Sax 5th Avenue. It’s about a simpler and less expensive lifestyle. Luxury items for purchase here are more apt to be items of art or virtue, produced by local artists and artisans. Vermont is home to some of the most famous people in the art world who live here for the very reasons you like to visit. Their works can be found for sale an many local retailers or at their home galleries. Although Vermont is not an “urban” area, you can be confident that most major credit cards will be accepted no matter where you go.
